It didn't bleed profusely (although there was quite a bit of blood..enough to gross his sister out). I assume that the more blood the more likelihood of stitches. I ruled them out since it wasn't a huge gash and thanked my lucky stars that it wasn't half an inch closer to his eyeball.

Wondering how he did it? His sister enlisted him in a game of sword fighting with giant sticks. She has much better defense skills than he does.
