Family pet(s)...
You may or may not remember this post where I mentioned that we were now pet owners. I feel like I should update you on the status of our pet ownership. It goes something like this...
The bird is gone.
We now have this.
Here is the sort of condensed version. Vanz brought the bird home as a surprise for Sailor. It also was a surprise to me. The bird was a lovebird and needed lots of attention. We could have gotten the bird a mate, but we didn't want to spend any more money on the bird. Sailor was scared to death of it and I became responsible for the attention and cleaning of the bird. Each day I hated that bird more and more. He lasted a few weeks and I finally told Sailor he had to go. She cried and cried. Not because she wanted or cared about the bird, but because she wanted a pet. Any pet. Vanz told her we could get a fish. Now, cut back to many years prior when Vanz said he'd always wanted a tropical fish tank. I debated getting him one a few years earlier for a birthday and then I priced them out.
We have a huge tropical fish store nearby. "Let's just go look" we said. A few hours and $$$$ later, we were the proud owners of a tank and some rock (evidently you cannot even put fish in for weeks...they will die. We tried). Sure we have lost a handful of fish along the way, but we've really grown to enjoy the tank. It has become our live piece of art. And it makes Vanz so happy. In fact, no joke that Vanz would live in a fish tank if he could. (Remind me to post about how he wants to invent a contraption like Luke Skywalker that lets you sleep in water). We have a cool green damsel and clown fish who have resisted the urge to die and for that we overfeed them daily. Plus we have some cool corals and other critters (crabs, starfish, snails, etc). And when it comes right down to it, they don't make any noise, poop on my floor or scare my kids. Worth every penny.
ps.
We took the bird to a bird farm.

It looks beautiful. Has Hobie tried to put toys in it or retrieve a fish?
Hobie & Sailor cannot reach in. It's too tall.
