Happy Birthday Mom!

Today is my Mom's birthday and I thought it only fitting that she get a blog tribute!
My Mom on our trip to Hong Kong
My Mom is a shining example of a great mother.  Here are just a few of the reasons why:
She inspired my love of sewing.  She was and is a wonderful seamstress and I always had beautiful outfits.  I even had my Mom make my prom and graduation dresses.
When she wasn't sewing for me she made sure I always had the prettiest Sunday dresses, which were usually Gunne Sax dresses.  I had one burgundy dropped waist dress that I LOVED.  I wish she kept it. I would have Sailor wear it.  It was that pretty.
She always supported us in whatever endeavours we did.  Whether it was sports, music, church or school events.  She was there for every single one.
She made sure we all had gorgeous teeth.
She managed to get 4 kids to church on-time every Sunday by herself. My Dad was always at meetings and I have no idea how she did it.
She made us Otis Spunkmeyer cookies in the special Otis Spunkmeyer oven.  Those were some delicious cookies.
She will fly out and take care of any of her children anytime.  She took care of me after both my babies and flies out to help her daughter-in-laws as well.  She is making at least 5 trips to California this summer to help take care of new grand babies and their Mommies.
She loves her Grandchildren.  She is always buying them little treats and sending them in the mail.  Sailor loves to get notes from her.
Grandma and Panda Sailor at the National Zoo (notice the other panda in the background?)
She is an expert gardener.  No one has flowers like my Mom.  It is a given that on Saturday she will be working on her yard (weather permitting of course).
She always had music playing in our house.  On Sunday mornings it was church music and during the week we listened to records.  (Anne Murray, Disney, The Beach Boys)
She always plans memorable family vacations. We've spent summers at Aspen Grove, Hawaii and most recently Alaska. She puts tremendous time, effort and money into all our family gatherings.
My Mom, Sister and I at the Merriweather Post Mansion in D.C.
As a teenager, every time we would leave the house she would remind us, "Remember who you are!"
She would do anything for anyone in her family.
There are many, many more things I could list that make her wonderful.  Thank you Mom for all you do.  Have a wonderful birthday!

Wow, what a wonderful way to start my day! Thank you for the lovely tribute. It has been my JOY to be the mother of 4 wonderful children and 5 + grandchildren and of course the wonderful daughters and sons-in-laws. I am truly blessed!
