ALL THE DETAILS..
The Name:
Yes, we really named our child Hobart and yes we will call him Hobie. Vanz served his mission in Australia and one of his areas was Tasmania. The capital of Tasmania is a city called Hobart. Hobie (yes, as in Hobie Alter) is obviously short for Hobart and since we have a nautical theme going we thought we might as well keep it up.
The Details:
My water broke early Thursday am (12:45am to be exact) and we knew that little Hobie was on his way.
Things progressed very quickly and once I got the epidural I was fully dilated from a 6 to 10 in about 15 minutes. After about an hour and a half of pushing, the doctors were concerned that he may be too big (obviously not the case) and that was why he wasn't descending.
We decided that a c-section would probably be the best option because his heart rate was starting to go down with each contraction. As the doctor was giving me all the details of the c-section, Hobie's heart rate got extremely low and they were having a hard time finding it. I was immediately rushed to the operating room where a team of about 15 people from labor and delivery and NICU had gathered for the operation. It was very scary hearing them call out again and again to find the baby's heart rate. They were thankfully able to locate it and minutes later I was given my c-section. It literally all happened within 5 minutes. In fact, the Dr. warned me that they may not even get Vanz in time (they did). As it turned out, the reason Hobie was not descending was not his weight, but the cord was wrapped around his neck, not once, not twice but three times. He never would have been able to have a normal delivery, so it was a huge blessing that we did the c-section and he was perfectly healthy upon delivery with a nice set of lungs to prove it.
What we have learned about our Hobie so far:
He loves to be swaddled (completely opposite of his sister)
He is a champion eater
He hates having his diaper changed (especially after he had a little "work" done down there)
His hair is a pretty chestnut color with blond eyebrows and eyelashes
He LOVES cuddling with his Mommy

Hobie is the cutest thing ever. He looks so sweet and peaceful. We can't wait to meet him. Glad everything turned out ok...hope you are feeling good & that vanz is recovering from being so tired (haha). Love you guys!
THANK YOU! I've been dying for details. I soooooooooo feel for you with the c-section after all of that labor. You have a get-out-of-anything-free card for the next 2 months! I'm so happy that it all went so well, though, considering. Congratulations! Oh, and Hobie and Isla can totally bond over how not everyone "gets" their names.
My c-section buddy! Thank you for the story. You know how I love to hear about everything.
I'm so glad that everything turned out ok, and that he came out healthy. He is darling. I love all that hair. I'm sure Sailor (and the rest of you) are in love.
Congrats, Holly!! I can't wait to meet Hobie! How is the recovery from the c-section??
