SEVEN YEARS IN TIBET
Many years ago I read the book Seven Years in Tibet. Long before the movie. It is one of my favorite books. An amazing story and if you've never read it, I highly recommend it.
That story began my Tibetan fascination. Their culture and history is very unique and of course the Dali Lama prior to his exile hailed from Tibet.
When Vanz & I went to Hong Kong last year we were able to spend a day inside China. The entire trip was amazing and I have a collection of incredible photographs that I took while I was there.
One of my photos that I was most excited about taking in China was a picture of an older Tibetan woman with two Tibetan monks. The picture itself isn't really that amazing. It was actually a bit disappointed that it didn't turn out better, but it still remains one of my favorite of the entire trip.
We were in a crowd of people so I couldn't get a good candid picture and felt a little disrespectful trying to do so anyway. I showed them my camera and pointed to them hoping they would understand that I wanted to take their photo. They did and stood together long enough for me to take the shot and I was elated. The photo doesn't even capture what I saw in them. The elderly woman was filled with character and beauty. I was captivated by her. I wish I could have taken more photos of her. It would have been so interesting to hear her story.
I thought of that picture today when I was reading today about the protests in Tibet. I cannot say that I am one that really keeps up with world events, but this story is one that captured my attention. It you want to learn more about Tibet and the how you can help click here.
