AFRICAN KIDS

Today was the day when all of the donations Sailor has made for the "African Kids" were being picked up. She has been adding to the collection of goods almost daily. Yesterday she asked if she could wrap some presents for them. As I was going through the paperwork of the pickup times I found out a little bit more about where they are being donated. What we didn't know when we were putting the things together was that they are acutally going to an all girls orphanage! Here is some information about the orphanage:

Limuru Kenya Orphanage for Girls

In some areas of Kenya up to 40% of the people are HIV positive. Through education and missionary service this number is beginning to decrease but it is devastating many families. Most affected are children who are left orphans as a result of both parents dying from AIDS. The Limuru Orphanage for Girls was established by the Presbyterian Church and is only partially built but was dedicated in August for the first few girls (ages 5-16). Kenya is one of the world's poorest countries and the orphanage is in dire need of supplies for these girls and many others who will be soon living at the orphanage.

Also, included in the paperwork was a picture of some of the girls. Sailor had me cut the picture out and we put the picture of her "girls" in a frame in her bedroom. I am so proud of Sailor as I watched her to give many of her favorite toys, clothes, shoes and books to these girls. She even added a special picture she drew for them. When they pulled up to pick up all her "goods" she ran outside saying, "are the African kids here?" I think she wanted to personally hand out her things to those girls. She "made my heart proud."
