PIES & DANISH PASTRY

Vanz & I have been craving pie for a few weeks. We used to have an amazing pie shop here in Huntington Beach that one of our ward members Sister Marcum owned. We miss it. She made delicious pies.

We really hadn't thought much about pie lately, but all of the sudden we both had a craving. I think it is the fault of the TV show "Pushing Daisies." Vanz was watching it one night because his cousin Tony did some of the digital work for the show. I was in another room and heard a voice singing and knew instantly who it was. Kristen Chenoweth. She is revered in our home as the lovely Glinda from Wicked. Sailor idolizes her. (she is fancy and pink with a wand and cares mostly for herself and how pretty she is...in other words, she is Sailor). I started watching the show and loved it. It is very original, but the thing that delights me the most is the gorgeous vintage outfits the main female character wears. It is a modern show, but it has a vintage look to it and I love it. Long story long...they work in a pie shop and each show involves pie. So we were craving it.

Sunday we talked about having me bake a pie, but I didn't really feel like putting all the effort into it. Quite frankly, I don't think I've ever made a pie. Well, I have made pie, but not a real pie. A pre-made crust doesn't count as a real pie. Vanz suggested his Mom's Danish Pastry.

Vanz has talked about his Mom's Danish Pastry since we were married. I've never made it for him even though he has requested it many times. I would look at the long, detailed recipe and think, "another time." Tonight I finally agreed. My first mistake was starting to make it at 8pm. We didn't actually get to eat any until about 10:30pm, but you know what? Worth the wait. It was so delicious!!

And why are so many of my posts lately about food?

UPDATE: We made batch 2 the next night. Still delicious.
